Women of Achievement Award 2006

Lauriston’s Principal, Meg Hansen, was one of four finalists in Brain Foundation Victoria’s Women of Achievement Award. The award recognises women who have made outstanding achievements in a chosen endeavour, while juggling many other aspects of their lives.

The winner of the Lloyd Morgan-sponsored award was Claire Vickery, Founder of the Butterfly Foundation, a community-based charitable organisation that supports eating disorder sufferers and their carers.

Other finalists were Alison Hardacre, Director of SCOPE and Robyn Miller, Principal Practitioner of Social Work in the Human Services Department.

It was Meg’s commitment to girls’ and women’s education that made her a stand out among the 60 nominations. Including her role as the Principal at Lauriston, Meg is a mentor for Building Futures – a homework program servicing young women of the Islamic community, an advisor to local small business women, the Treasurer of Girls Sport Victoria Committee of Management and a mother of two teenage children.

Entrants were judged on commitment, achievement, contribution to society, and ability to balance many responsibilities, creativity and innovation and the extent to which the nominated woman serves as a role model for other women.

Brain Foundation Victoria is a state wide service that is dedicated to improving the quality of life of people affected by conditions of the brain and providing support to their families.
