Leonard Sax, MD, PhD, is a family doctor and psychologist and founder of the US-based National Association for Single Sex Public Education. He is also the author of the best-selling book Why Gender Matters: What Parents and Teachers Need to Know about the Emerging Science of Sex Differences.
Dr Sax has been a featured guest on CNN, PBS, FOX News, Voice of America and many other news programs, discussing the importance of sex differences with respect to how children learn.
Drawing on the actual experiences of US schools, Dr Sax points out that keeping boys and girls separate in the classroom can yield striking educational, social and interpersonal benefits. Although many educators believe that education should be blind to sex differences, Dr Sax argues that parents and teachers would do better to recognize, understand and make use of the biological differences that make a girl a girl, and a boy a boy.
'Psychologist and family physician Leonard Sax, using 20 years of published research, offers a guide to the growing mountain of evidence that girls and boys really are different ... This extremely readable book also includes shrewd advice on discipline, and on helping youngsters avoid drugs and early sexual activity. Sax's findings, insights and provocative point-of-view should be of interest and help to many parents' (extract from review of Why Gender Matters, New York Post).
'Yes, men's and women's brains are different. But new research up-ends the old myths about who's good at what.'
