Traditional disciplines hold an important place at Howqua. The curriculum is designed so that students continue to build upon skills developed in Years 7 and 8. Classes in Mathematics, Mandarin Chinese and French continue, along with comprehensive Music and Art programs. In the style of the Howqua Campus, however, teachers never miss an opportunity to tailor these subjects to make the most of the natural setting.
Some typically distinct subjects are combined at Howqua to make the most of field study. Science, Environmental Science and Geography are brought together, as are History and English. Lessons in Interdisciplinary Studies A (ISA - Humanities) could involve the exploration of local history and a study of the references in Australian literature to the surrounding high country. While studying Interdisciplinary Studies B (ISB - Sciences) girls may take measurements for the Water Watch program, monitor heart rate while exercising, track small mammal populations or become involved in tree planting.
