Music

Music is an integral part of the education offered at Lauriston. There are many opportunities for students with musical ambition and for students who wish to take part simply for fun. With over thirty specialist teachers and an integrated performing arts and music centre, Lauriston has one of the finest school music programs in Melbourne.

From Prep to Year 12, students are encouraged to become involved as soloists, team players, leaders and supporters.

There are many choral and instrumental ensembles, bands to orchestras and more than twenty-five performance occasions on the annual calendar: Term 3 we present our Annual School Concert, and for twenty years there has been a combined concert with Xavier College.

Lauriston stages two extremely professional and entertaining musicals each year – one for Years 5 to 8 and another for Years 10 to 12. Recent performances of Annie Jr and Anything Goes received rave reviews, as did the senior musical Godspell.

In addition to curricular music lessons, the Music School offers individual tuition on a number of instruments: oboe, clarinet, bassoon, flute, recorder, trumpet, trombone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, horn, euphonium, tuba, percussion, voice, contemporary voice, violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, piano, Suzuki piano and contemporary piano. We also provide tuition in Theory of Music, Musicianship and Music Craft.
