The 7/8 Centre caters for the needs of adolescent learners. A proactive pastoral care philosophy provides a nurturing structure which focuses on the specific learning, physical and social needs of these age groups.
Learning is linked across the two year levels to develop an innovative learning philosophy assisting students to become more independent learners. Research into how students learn and research into best practice guides this process.
Years 7 and 8 are years characterised by transition and by the tremendous development that occurs in students academically, socially and physically.
Students entering Year 7 need time to adjust to the different format of the day, the moving from room to room, the variety of teachers they have and the physical surroundings. For this reason Year 7 students spend some time, early in the year, involved in the development of personal management skills and group cohesiveness.
Once they have developed confidence in their new environment they are ready to meet some of the extra challenges we provide. The Year 7 program ensures an easy, yet academically challenging, start to secondary schooling. Students study two languages, French and Chinese, as well as a full complement of the Arts, Science, History, Physical Education and Mathematics. Social Education and Information Technology are integrated into the overall curriculum.
Information relating to the specific curriculum of the 7 and 8 Centre can be found in the Handbook for 2009.
