In assuming the position of Director in 2007, Nick Thornton brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the education sector and its constituent bodies. Originally from western Victoria, Nick was educated at Camperdown High School.

Following some years as a classroom teacher, Nick was seconded to the Victorian Law Institute where he was responsible for producing resource materials for use in schools. His extensive experience in education encompasses positions in the Curriculum Branch of the Ministry of Education, Deputy-Principal at St Albans High School, Principal of Altona High School, General Manager of the Barwon South West Region, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Principals' Centre, and an education consultant with Unesco.

Nick is committed to the provision of high quality training support for Lauriston staff, while broadening the scope of the Institute’s operations to encompass other sectors in education and business.
