For the second year in a row, Lauriston's junior hockey team has taken out the state championship. The girls went into their final match undefeated and finished their last game with a score of 1-0. Well done to our young champs.
Did you know that the first girls’ interschool hockey match took place between Lauriston and Ruyton in 1903 on a vacant piece of land on the corner of Mercer and Malvern Roads? This particular game was the impetus for the formation of the Girls’ Schools Hockey Association.
Thanks to the Irvings sister’s (founders of Lauriston) commitment to sports and their understanding of the value of physical exercise, pathways for women’s sport have been created.
