Levels and squads

The Lauriston Swim School is open to all students, regardless of which school they attend or their gender. 

Level Requirements
1 Water Confidence, Blow bubbles with mouth, Floating on front and back independently, Dog paddle for 5m; Kicking on front and back in streamlined position with an aid; Fully submerge to pick up an object from bottom of pool; Safe entry and exit
2 Fluent freestyle and backstroke for 10m; Controlled breathing pattern; Starting breaststroke kick and butterfly kick; Kneeling dives off the wall with streamlined entry
3 Fluent freestyle and backstroke for 15m, Fluent breaststroke kick and stroke timing, Butterfly kick in streamline position, Standing dives off the wall, Starting tumble turns
4 Fluent freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke (25m) and butterfly (15m); Fluent turns for all strokes at all times; Standing dives off the block
5 Fluent freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke (50m) and butterfly with correct turns (25m); Standing dives off the block
Mini Squad

Aiming to enjoy multiple sports but still wants to train and compete.
Developing sound technique and skill in all strokes to compete at Encouragement meets.
Required to train 2-3 swim sessions per week.
Aged between 8 and 12 years.

Junior Squad Aiming to enjoy multiple sports but still wants to train and compete.
Developing sound technique and skill in all strokes to compete at Optus Junior Dolphin meets.
Required to train 3-4 sessions per week.
Aged between 8 and 12 years 
Development Squad

Aiming to transition into competitive swimming as their priority sport.
Developing sound technique and sill in all strokes to compete at Victorian Metropolitan Championships.
Required to train 4-5 sessions per week.
Aged between 10 and 13 years.

State Squad

Aiming to qualify for Victorian Championships.
Training with a focus on development of all strokes and distances.
Required to attend 5–6 swim sessions and 2 dry land sessions per week.
Required to maintain a monthly attendance of 85%.
Aged between 12 and 16 years.

National Squad

Aiming to qualify for Australian Age Championships.
Training with a focus on the development of all strokes and distances.
Required to attend 6–7 sessions and 2 dry land sessions per week.
Required to maintain a monthly attendance of 85%.
Aged 13 years and over.

Terms and conditions

  • Responsible behaviour is expected from students at all times
  • All students are expected to arrive in a timely manner for their classes
  • All swimmers are required to wear appropriate attire when in the pool. A one-piece bathing suit must be worn for lessons, with no loose fitting items of clothing over the top. Board shorts are not to be worn. In levels one and two, students may like to wear a rash vest to help them keep warm in the water as they are not moving as much as in the higher levels
  • Every student is required to wear a bathing cap whilst in the water
  • Swimming lessons are just like any other lesson conducted at School and therefore should be treated the same
  • All children under the age of 12 must be supervised by a responsible person 17 years old and over at all times. If you are bringing other children with you to watch the lessons please remember that they must be actively supervised at all times and are not the responsibility of Lauriston staff
  • Valuables cannot be held at reception and no responsibility is taken for valuables left anywhere in the facility
  • If a student is to miss a lesson for any reason Lauriston Swimming reception needs to be notified 24 hours prior to the lesson if you wish to participate in the end of term make-up lesson
  • A maximum of one (1) make-up lesson is available each term. It must be taken within the same term as the missed lesson
  • Make-up lessons cannot be swapped for family credit or refunds
  • Fees must be paid in full at the time of booking to commence lessons for a particular time period
  • Fees must be received in full during re-enrolment to guarantee your spot for the following term
  • Payments can be made by cash (in person), or by Visa or Mastercard (in person or over the phone)
  • No refunds will be made on any term payments
  • Suspension will only be granted upon presentation of a medical certificate stating the dates of absence to the Lauriston Swimming Coordinator
  • Any payments affected by a suspension will be held over in family credit indefinitely
  • Management reserves the right to terminate the Lauriston Swimming membership of any person not complying with any of the list terms and conditions
