Courageous Heroes Expo: A Year 5 Inquiry
April 2026
Throughout Term One, our Year 5 students became heroes, exploring courage through research, creativity and storytelling. Their journey was brought to life at the Courageous Heroes Expo, showcasing heroic stories, brave choices and powerful characters.
The Year 5 Inquiry unit, Courage, invited students to explore what it means to show bravery, resilience and strength in different areas of life. Beginning with our Courage Conference and culminating in the Courageous Heroes Expo, the unit encouraged students to think deeply about how people face challenges, overcome obstacles and make a positive difference in the world.
Throughout the term, students researched a courageous hero of their choice, building their understanding of that person’s life, achievements and character. They developed and designed a detailed poster to present their findings as well as a digital presentation, using Canva to complement and enhance their work.
The unit concluded with the Courageous Heroes Expo, where students dressed as their chosen hero and stepped into character to share their learning. Parents and special friends were invited to attend, giving students the opportunity to present their research, answer questions and bring their hero’s story to life. It was a wonderful celebration of inquiry, creativity and confidence, and a meaningful way for students to reflect on the many ways courage can be shown.
Heroes ranged from athlete Eileen Gu to pioneering microbiologist Professor Nancy Millis!
