Lauriston. For Life.

An education that goes beyond the classroom and sets you up for life.

While others talk about changing the world, a Lauriston girl will make change happen.

Intellectually curious and a courageous thinker, a Lauriston girl is ready to adapt and support those who need it it most.

Her journey through Lauriston and beyond will be not unlike the trails of Howqua, our transformative Year 9 residential program in the Victorian high country.

Just as each mountain path is unique, what she gains at Lauriston will stand her in good stead throughout life – perseverance at each uphill, moments of reflection, lifelong connections with her peers, an inner strength to take on each challenge and an ability to seize every opportunity.

Victoria | Year 10
Future Changemaker

Victoria’s journey has been a transformative exploration of her passions and abilities, particularly in the arts and academics.

Her experience at Howqua not only ignited her passion for running but also fostered valuable life skills such as kindness and leadership.

She credits Lauriston with developing her confidence and love for learning, allowing her to thrive in various activities from ballet to debating.

Inspired by her mum’s career in medicine, Victoria aims to pursue a similar path, armed with the skills and values instilled in her through the supportive Lauriston community.

"I describe a Lauriston girl as empowered, confident and kind. However, you can't restrict a Lauriston girl to a few words - she has so much to offer."
"The choice of IB or VCE at Lauriston is an incredible opportunity - for me, the IB path provides me with the breadth and depth of subjects and the ability to be more creative."
"Why Lauriston for me? It provides an amplification of opportunities to challenge yourself, it's innovative and it's pushing girls to reach for the stars so they can be the future leaders."
"My mum attended Lauriston and I can see how it's shaped her life skills that she uses every day. It taught her to work hard, and how to apply yourself to any situation - her medical field has quite a big gender imbalance. Lauriston has taught her to believe in herself."
"Balancing academics and co-curriculars can be challenging, but Lauriston provides you with the skills and the support to overcome that, for example, time blocking or negotiating an ensemble clash."

Alex | OL 2002
Self-proclaimed
"Jill of all trades"

Alex exemplifies the vibrant spirit of a Lauriston girl, seamlessly weaving her passion for the arts with community service.

She is immensely proud of how Lauriston has remained an environment where challenges become opportunities, stating, “no one ever tells you that you can’t do anything.”

With a successful career in media and a law degree completed later in life, Alex is not only a role model for her children but also embodies the values of perseverance and support instilled during her time at Lauriston.

"In a word, a Lauristonian is resilient - we have been given a sense of self, courage and worth that helps us to see that the obstacle ahead can be overcome."
"At Howqua, 'Mars Bar Hill' is damn near impossible to get over - I don't know if anyone did in my year level. It wasn't about getting to the top of the hill - it was about trying and trying and trying and not giving up."
"With my daughter starting here, I have taken so much pride in seeing what has remained the same - the Moreton Bay Fig is bigger, but the values have stayed the same, they're still teaching girls how to prepare for the future."
"If you told me back in 2002 that I would complete a law degree at 41, I would've laughed in your face. That girl is still this girl - I'm quite proud being a role model to my children, but also my friends - in continuing study."
"The IB Program's Creativity, Activity and Service Program meant that I could still be on the swim team, still play the cello, and more importantly gained a love of social services, helping the community and I still volunteer to this day."
"When you think about a Lauriston girl, there is no stereotype - you can be sporty, or academic, or artsy, or many - no one is going to pigeonhole you, they see that as interesting and that it should be acknowledged."

Lucy | OL 2012
Risk-taking Communicator

Lucy’s experience at Lauriston has been a catalyst for her personal growth and independence, shaping her into a confident and passionate individual.

She believes the school’s diverse opportunities encourage students to embrace new challenges, fostering a strong sense of community among Lauriston girls.

Reflecting on her time at Howqua, Lucy highlights how it equipped her with resilience and practical skills, enabling her to navigate a career spanning the media landscape, and its’ challenges, with grit and determination.

"Lauriston girls have grit, and should not be underestimated. They are girls who will always go above and beyond. You set the bar, a Lauriston girl goes higher."
"As someone who is employing people now, you really want someone who fits the team and is a value add. And I think Lauriston girls always bring value."
"Rarely a day goes past and this might sound a bit ridiculous, where I don't think about and reflect on the skills or experiences that I had at Howqua."
"I think at Howqua you really learn how to be a woman. You have to engage with people 24/7. How do you make that work? How do you run a house? It takes away all the noise and just lets you focus on sort of developing as a woman in this world."
"Whenever I meet Lauriston girls later in life, they're the girls who throw their hands up. They want to get involved, they want be a part of things. They’re the girls who jump up and say, 'let's give it a crack."

David | Current Parent
Found Lifelong Community

David’s journey with Lauriston has been profoundly transformative for his whole family, not just his daughter, Emily.

He appreciates how the school has instilled values of empathy, responsibility, and integrity in her, shaping the way she engages with others and approaches challenges.

He has also discovered a sense of belonging within the school community, finding warmth and connection that has made their new life in Australia feel much more like home.

"We thought we might be alone, living so far from our homeland. I have actually joined alot of school communities and groups where I feel welcomed and learn alot - it makes me feel more at home."
"We chose Lauriston because of its commitment to the whole human education with a global mindset."
"Howqua was one of the main reasons we chose Lauriston - I expected that Emily can develop her independence and learn how to work as part of a team, how to lead and how to keep going even when things get tough."

Lucy | Year 12
Ambitious Allrounder

Lucy embodies the spirit of a Lauriston girl: driven, resilient, and unafraid to embrace challenges.

Reflecting on her transformative Howqua experience, she is incredibly proud of her personal growth, stating, “You learn that you can do things that you never thought were possible.”

With an open mindset and grounded confidence, Lucy looks forward to tackling future milestones and pursuing her passions in sports and the arts, eager to inspire others just as she was inspired in her journey.

"I like to not let opportunities pass me by, which is something I've definitely gained at Lauriston."
"I have never been able to choose between sport and music - I've done A cappella singing groups, rowing, indoor cricket and many more - they're all so valuable to meet new people and build creativity."
"I would describe a Lauriston girl as driven, resilient and brave."
"I went for a leadership role because I wanted to not only give back to a community that has gifted me so much, but I also wanted to be someone other year levels are inspired by, just as I was when I started in Year 7."
"Howqua has given me a more open mindset for Years 11 & 12 - the SACs and end of year exams that were once daunting and scary - I now look towards those big milestones with less fear and more confidence that I actually can do it."
"I can't wait to take that Lauriston spirit of trying out everything you can, and continue my passions at college - AFL is definitely something I want to continue, as well as trying out different plays and ensembles."

Lucy | Year 12
Creative Geographer

Lucy exemplifies a well-rounded, enthusiastic Lauriston student, taking every opportunity to expand her engagement in what Lauriston has to offer.

Joining Lauriston in Year 6, Lucy overcame a language barrier with the support of her teacher. She is now a member of several voice and instrument ensembles, which she credits to giving her confidence in language.

Geography has proven to be her real passion at Lauriston, whether it was studying groundwater in Year 7, or interviewing Mansfield residents about the impact of Tourism on their community – all pursuits gave her the confidence to achieve excellence at the Australian Geography Competition’s ‘Big Week Out’ in Canberra. This resulted in her being selected as one of four students to represent Australia at the 2026 International Geography Competition in Türkiye later this year!

"Geography teaches you so much about the world and how we can make the world a better place, and it has really helped me develop a well-rounded worldview."
"I disagree with the Chinese proverb - "Reading ten thousand books is not as good as traveling ten thousand miles. Both are equally important."
"I can't wait to explore Istanbul as part of the Olympiad - its unique location between East and West makes it a diverse and vibrant city."
