March 2026

“Before they learn to read, some children have already built an entire online audience. Their lives – from birthday parties to emotional breakdowns – are shared, sponsored, and monetised.”

Lauriston student Dana, was recently published by The Ethics Centre, her article, The Price of Playtime, explores the ethics of Kidfluencing.

We spoke with Dana as she reflected on her research, noting that “I think anyone working in those online spaces is aware to some extent—it’s more about whether you take action on it, because it’s inevitable when you’re in the online world.” She went on to describe the publishing side of her work, adding that “it was nice experiencing the editing process of an article; during the holidays I was given comments and things to review.”
