Lauriston Recognised Amongst Australia’s Leading Schools
Lauriston Girls’ School has been recognised among Australia’s top independent schools in the 2026 Schools360 Top 500 Private Schools in Australia Rankings, a significant achievement that reflects our commitment to excellence across all aspects of education.
Lauriston is incredibly proud to have been ranked first nationally amongst girls’ schools; and fourth nationally across single-sex and coeducational schools behind Wesley College (Perth), Scotch College Melbourne and Melbourne Grammar School.
This national ranking is underpinned by an extensive methodology that assesses schools against more than 60 measures across key areas including academic outcomes, student wellbeing, learning environment, co‑curricular breadth and long‑term capability. The result is a holistic view of school performance, recognising institutions that balance strong academic results with rich, future‑focused learning experiences.
At Lauriston, this balance is central to the student experience. As one Old Lauristonian reflects,
“I am now a plastic surgeon, which can be a male dominated field. I feel like Lauriston set me in good stead for following a career path I aspired and realising girls can do anything.” (Old Lauristonian 2006)
The Schools360 methodology also evaluates the quality of teaching and the depth of learning culture within a school. Lauriston’s approach is shaped by high expectations and a focus on personal growth, where students are encouraged to think deeply, challenge themselves and pursue excellence with purpose.
Equally important is the emphasis on wellbeing and belonging. Lauriston’s intentionally designed programs support students to build confidence, resilience and strong relationships, ensuring they are equipped to thrive both academically and personally.
For many families, it is this sense of continuity and connection that stands out.
“That shared connection is very important to me, and I hope that over time, their appreciation of that shared connection will be strong enough that if they have girls, they send them to Lauriston as well!”
Amanda, current parent
In the Junior School, these foundations are established early through a strong focus on literacy, numeracy and individual growth, supported by a nurturing and engaging environment where each child is known and valued.
Students also benefit from a breadth of opportunities beyond the classroom. From co‑curricular programs to leadership experiences, Lauriston fosters curiosity and encourages each girl to explore her interests and strengths in meaningful ways.
“Lauriston offers a nurturing environment where students feel safe to take risks, express their voice, and grow as independent thinkers. Within this culture of support and trust, girls are encouraged to think creatively, contribute confidently, and develop the courage to explore new ideas.”
Ms Vanessa McDonnell, Head of Senior School
This recognition affirms Lauriston’s commitment to providing an education that is both rigorous and holistic. It reflects the ambition of its students and the strength of its community.
As Lauriston continues to build on its 125‑year legacy, this achievement highlights what has always defined the School: a deep belief in the potential of every girl, and a commitment to helping her flourish.
